“In China”
From 2006 to 2007, I lived and worked in Dalian, a city of six million in the Manchurian region of China. I found the experience to be both overwhelming and isolating.  Each day I would be confronted with crowds, ever expanding urban sprawl, and ceaseless demolition and construction.  While I realize that my own sense of isolation was heightened by my status as a foreigner, it was something that I saw in many of the people around me as well.  It was an isolation born of the constant change, and the accompanying uncertainty, endemic to China’s rapidly growing cities.  What I worked to capture, therefore, was the burden of such rapid growth.
